Helinä Rautavaara in Memoriam – 2025
An annual event organized by the Finnish Capoeira Federation to honour the life’s work of Helinä Rautavaara. This year’s event, held at the museum, is particularly special! It will feature Treinel Emmi and Professora Gaivota from Finland, Mestre Edson Souton, a master of Brazilian popular culture, from Ireland, and Mestre Rene Bittencourt, an icon of Capoeira Angola, who arrives from Brazil, for the first time in Finland!
In the words of Magno Lopes, president of the Finnish Capoeira Federation: We believe Helinä Rautavaara would be truly happy to see people from all walks of life connecting through culture, rhythm, and movement. That’s why our festival is built on the spirit of inclusion.
The sound of the berimbau instrument draws inspiration from the shared traditions of Finland and Brazil. The rhythms of capoeira, hand clapping, and the dances of the orixás are a valuable invitation to everyone to celebrate the life of Helinä Rautavaara.
Other partners of the even are City of Helsinki, Guimarães Rosa Cultural Institute, World Capoeira Federation, Clips Academia Europa, Grupo de Capoeira Lua de São Jorge, Angoleiros do Sertão, and Grupo de Capoeira Angolinha.
A warm welcome!
