Festival Formatura 2025

Thursday, November 13th, 5–7 p.m.

Festival Formatura 2025 is an event organized by Escola Senzala de Capoeira Helsinki, where the first Finnish student will be awarded the red belt, the highest belt level, by Grupo Senzala. At the same time, we will celebrate 37 years of the Brazilian martial art capoeira in Finland!

Escola Senzala and its association Capoeira Capital are Finland’s oldest capoeira club, which has been spreading Afro-Brazilian culture in Finland for 36 years. Claudio Lemos, known in capoeira as Mestre Samara, has been the group’s teacher throughout this time. An open capoeira roda at the Helinä Rautavaara Museum will open the event, with the aim of bringing together older enthusiasts and the younger generation, as well as all capoeira groups in the capital region.

You are warmly welcome to come and enjoy the rhythms created by berimbau bows, caxixi rattles, agogôs, chocalcos, reco-recos, pandeiros, and drums, as well as traditional songs, which are part of the intangible cultural heritage protected by UNESCO.
