Indian dance afternoon

Saturday 2.3. at 14

You are warmly welcome to watch a classical kathak dance performance and practice Bollywood dance movements under the guidance of Runa Dey, an expert in Indian dance traditions!

Kathak is a thousands of years old North Indian dance tradition characterised by precise and fast movements, rhythmic steps and storytelling through gestures. The dance has developed within Islamic culture, but is not religious in nature.

Bollywood dance, on the other hand, has its origins in Indian films. It is a combination of different dance styles and moods. It has many different levels and is therefore suitable for all ages. Wear clothes that are easy to move in and let the music take over!

The event is supported by the City of Espoo.

Hello! I am Runa Dey from India. I have stayed in Finland for last 14 years and worked as a kindergarten teacher. Beside being a teacher, I am a Kathak dancer and have done many workshops in Finland.

What is Kathak? Kathak is one of the classical dance forms from India and its means “Story telling “. I have learnt Kathak dance for 13 years and hold teachers’ degree.  I would love to show you some classical dance movements and together we can try some semi classical and Bollywood style. I will wait for you at Helinä Rautavara Museum!
