Information on socially sustainable development

The museum’s communication and global education activities were built around an exhibition and virtual reality experience co-curated with Taksvärkki’s Kenyan partner organisation Undugu and Kenyan youth. Museum visitors were able to meet young Kenyan activists who have dared to step up and take action for change. At the same time, the audience could see how sustainability is being implemented at the grassroots level.
One in three Kenyans live below the poverty line. The rise of young people from the streets to active citizenship shows how everyone can make a difference, how together we can make a difference, and how sustainable development can be promoted in our own lives. The example of young people in Kenya helps to understand the causes and solutions behind development challenges and gives a comprehensive picture of people in developing countries as active citizens.
Activists in their own lives aimed to raise awareness of socially sustainable development among schoolchildren, students and the general public. The project was implemented with funds from the Ministry for Foreign Affairs’ Development Cooperation in 2023-2024. More than 20 000 visitors saw the exhibition and more than 2200 people took part in workshops and events.
